Eligibility
To sit for the Certified Paraoptometric Examination, the following requirements must be met:
  1. Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, and
  2. Must have a minimum of six (6) months employment in the eye care field.

You can submit your online application for Certified Paraoptometric Examination.

Please make sure you have read the Handbook for Candidates and have all the required information ready before starting the online application. 

Complete your application using your name exactly as it appears on the photo ID you will present to PSI on the examination date. Registering for the examination with a name that does not match the presented photo ID may result in denial of admittance at your scheduled examination appointment at PSI and forfeiture of the entire registration fee.

Eligibility
To sit for the Certified Paraoptometric Assistant Examination, one of the following requirements must be met:
  1. Must have earned the CPO title, hold a current CPO designation, and verify a minimum of six months additional employment in the eye care field as a Certified Paraoptometric (CPO), or
  2. Graduates or students currently enrolled and in good standing* in their last semester of study at an approved optometric assistant program are eligible to sit for the examination directly without having been CPO certified. Graduates of approved optometric assistant programs must have completed and graduated within the last three years.

    *Students will be required to submit verification of successful completion of the program before their test results will be released to them. The examination fee will not be refunded to students who do not complete their program.

Eligibility
To sit for the Certified Paraoptometric Technician Examination, one of the following requirements must be met:
  1. Must have earned the CPOA title, hold a current CPOA designation, and verify a minimum of six months additional employment in the eye care field as a Certified Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA), or
  2. Graduates or students currently enrolled and in good standing* in their last semester of study at an ACOE (Accreditation Council on Optometric Education) approved optometric technician program are eligible to sit for the examination directly without meeting the eligibility "A" criteria. Graduates of approved optometric technician programs must have completed and graduated within the last three years.

    *Students will be required to submit verification of successful completion of the program before their test results will be released to them. The examination fee will not be refunded to students who do not complete their program.

    NOTE: Candidates who are not graduates of an ACOE approved optometric technician program must pass both the CPOT written and practical examinations to be considered a Certified Paraoptometric Technician. ACOE graduates within the past three years are exempt from the CPOT Practical Examination.
