The Certification Examination in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring is designed and written for the advanced level
Neurodiagnostic professionals, or formally trained NIOM professionals who are currently practicing in an intraoperative environment.

- The Candidate must be present and an active participant in the
set-up, troubleshooting and monitoring of each case listed, in its
entirety.
- Observation of an NIOM case may not be included in the 150
required cases, but supervised cases are acceptable, as long as
the requirements listed above are met.
- 10% of the cases documented must have been performed within
12 months of application deadline.
- ABRET will accept documentation of up to two cases per day.
- Do not submit more that 150 cases. Only the first 150 cases will
be considered.
- Monitoring performed in the operating room during a surgical
procedure should be included. Pre-op testing and procedures do
not satisfy this requirement.
All candidates must have documentation of current CPR/BLS certification.
CNIM Exam 1 will consist of a maximum of 200 items based on the CNIM
Practice Analysis.
CNIM Exam 2 will consist of a maximum of 200 items based on the CNIM
Practice Analysis and 50 items based on the relevant portions of the
Evoked Potential Practice Analysis.
PETITION OF PATH 2 ELIGIBILITY
CNIM candidates may select to petition their eligibility at the time of
application if alternative education completed is equivalent to 120 semester
hours of college credit. Use the "Petition of CNIM Eligibility Form"
downloadable from the ABRET website.

*EEG experience is defined as experience in clinical EEG for a period equivalent
to 32 hours/week (1664 hours/year). Sleep experience is not considered
clinical EEG experience.
**ACE credits are a product of ASET (www.aset.org) and can be earned at any
point during the EEG experience.
All Part 1 candidates must have documentation of current CPR/BLS
certification.
OTHER ELIGIBILITY STATUSES
- Candidates who have a current R. EP T. credential are eligible to
take the R. EEG T. examinations. Proceed through Credential
Manager. Your status will already be in the system once you log in.
- Technologists with a current R. EEG T. credential may opt to take
the Part 2 examination in order to renew their credential, but no
earlier than one year prior to expiration. Your status will already be
in the system once you log in.
- Candidates who feel they have completed education equivalent to
an associate degree, but have not earned a degree, may petition
their eligibility by usig the "Petition of Eligibility" form on the
ABRET® website and following the instructions.
- Candidates who previously passed the ABRET® Part 1 examination
prior to 2013 may opt to retake the new Part 1 and Part 2
examinations in order to bypass the oral examination, which is
required for all candidates in the registration process prior to 2013.
Obtain a log-on credential in Credential Manager but apply through
the ABRET® office.

The Certification Examination in Long Term Monitoring is designed and written
for the advanced level R. EEG T. who has had at least one year of experience in
Neurophysiologic Long Term Monitoring, and is currently practicing in a
monitoring environment. Candidates will be expected to have been an active
participant in the set-up, monitoring, and review of prolonged video-EEG cases.

PETITION OF ELIGIBILITY
Candidates who received an adverse eligibility decision may appeal the
decision in writing to the Executive Director within 30 days.
