Professional Testing Corporation Online Testing Services
Professional Testing Corporation (PTC) releases a new version of the PTC Online Testing System. The enhanced PTC Online Testing System features a colorful, customizable, and user-friendly interface that supports high quality graphics. Candidates receive instant, printable score reports after they complete their examinations. They can also tag questions for review and store examinations to return to them later. PTC offers live technical support during office hours, on the telephone and via email.
The PTC Online Testing System supports both Secure and Nonsecure Testing.
Secure Testing (Certification, Licensure, International)
Under the secure testing model, Professional Testing Corporation uses its network of testing sites to arrange a proctored location that is convenient for the candidates, whether they live in the United States or overseas. Examiners are trained in examination administration, security, and operation of the PTC Online Testing System. During the examination, PTC personnel can track the progress of the candidates remotely and are available to provide guidance. After candidates complete the examination, they can either receive instant results or the results can be analyzed and delivered to the candidates at a later time.
Nonsecure Testing (Practice Tests, Assessment Tests)
Under the nonsecure testing model, candidates apply for and take the examinations online on their personal computers. The examinations are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The nonsecure testing model is most appropriate for practice tests and personal assessment. Practice tests benefit candidates by offering the experience of taking a computerized examination as well as providing insight into question content, format, style, and level of difficulty. In addition, candidates apply and pay for examinations online, and take examinations on their personal computer or at a proctored location.
Special Use (Workshops, Seminars)
The PTC Online Testing System could also be used for special use testing for workshops and seminar/webinars. Testing could be secure with an independent examiner supervising the administration or nonsecure with a “take-home”component. Online workshops can be linked to the PTC Online Testing System website to provide prompt end-of-session quizzes, tests, or evaluations. The PTC Online Testing System offers convenience, affordability, and flexibility to candidates and clients. For more information about online testing and PTC’s other services, please contact Richard Gubitosi, Director of Online Testing Services, at 212-356-0668 or rgubitosi@ptcny.com.

In an article on accreditation of certifying organizations that appeared in the July/August 2008 issue, PTC is mentioned as the company that the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers uses to develop and administer its test and to ensure that it is psychometrically sound. PTC is said to have received approval from the National Organization of Certifying Agencies (NOCA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for its procedures. The article maintains that such approval defines PTC’s ability to develop, update and conduct certification examinations within appropriate standards.
PTC has been instrumental in achieving accreditation by NOCA, ANSI and the American Board of Nursing Specialties for many of its clients. PTC recommends that clients adhere to the standards for accreditation regardless of their ability or objective to apply.
